Meet Saskia, a Senior Data & Measurement Account Manager working in our Dublin office. Her team is helping shape the future of AI-powered marketing for major companies, including some of our largest customers in EMEA. She identifies curiosity and the willingness to adapt and learn as key skills for her role. In order to guide clients, “you have to be a good listener, be curious about their business and marketing goals, the problem they are trying to solve for, their potential challenges, their data infrastructure and our own tools,” she explains. In 2021, Google committed $1B over 5 years to support Africa’s digital and AI future and thanks to teams across Google we’ve met and exceeded that investment commitment ahead of schedule – and we’re not stopping now. I’m excited that today marks another milestone in our commitment to Africa's future in this AI moment. Some highlights: Cheaper, faster and widely accessible connectivity is still a challenge. Building on our investments in connectivity for Africa (e.g. the Equiano spanning Africa’s Western seaboard, Umoja, the fiber optic route running through Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa), Google is announcing four strategic connectivity hubs in the north, south, east and west regions of Africa. This creates new digital corridors within Africa and between Africa and the rest of the world. Moreover, our Google Cloud Region and Google Distributed Cloud now serves users across the continent. Africa is home to the world’s youngest population. Enabling Africa’s young people to learn, innovate and build is critical. That’s why we’re getting advanced AI into the hands of college students (aged 18 or older) in countries across the continent — starting with Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda and Zimbabwe — by offering them a free one-year subscription to our Google Gemini AI Pro plan. With access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, students can use Guided Learning, Deep Research and other problem-solving, coding and content creation tools to learn and pursue opportunities. Expanding Africa’s skills and research capacity with respect to AI is essential. To date, we've trained 7 million Africans and plan to train an additional 3 million students and teachers by 2030. We are also providing African universities and research institutions with over $17 million in funding, curriculum, training, compute and access to advanced AI models over the past four years, and now an additional $9 million planned for the coming year. Inclusion of African languages in AI is also important. Last year, of the 110 languages we added to Google Translate, more than 30 were African languages. Building on that we're further expanding open datasets, evaluations and voice models for more than 40 African languages, with plans to reach more than 50 languages and publish 24 open speech datasets next year. One more thing: We've seen the power of enabling research and innovation in Africa through the work of our AI research teams in Ghana and Kenya. These Google teams – who I spent time with recently – are leading cutting-edge AI research to benefit Africa and the world, e.g. advanced flood forecasting, Open Buildings data, strengthening crop resilience etc. We aim to reach 500 million Africans by 2030 with our AI-powered innovations that help tackle societal challenges. Much more to do  - we are not stopping here.  https://lnkd.in/gWmxkxtW
